2. Minimum Requirements

To qualify for the 2026 learnership, you must meet these criteria:

  • Education: Grade 12 (Matric) OR a National Certificate in Vocational Studies (NQF Level 4).

  • Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen.

  • Age: Must be between 21 and 35 years old.

  • Fitness: Must be physically fit and mentally resilient to handle a correctional environment.

  • Character: Must have a clean criminal record (Security vetting will be conducted).

  • Skills: Good communication skills and a strong character.


3. Program Structure

The learnership consists of two main phases:

  1. Theoretical Training (±30%): Conducted at a DCS Training College (e.g., Kroonstad or Zonderwater). Accommodation, meals, and uniforms are provided during this phase.

  2. Workplace Learning (±70%): Practical, on-the-job training at various Correctional Centres/Management Areas.


4. How to Apply

Applications for the DCS learnership are typically processed through a specific Learnership Application Form rather than a standard Z83.

  1. Download Form: Obtain the official DCS Learnership Application Form (Check the DCS website for the 2026 specific version if updated).

  2. Reference Number: You must use the correct reference number for the specific Management Area (Region) you are applying to.

  3. Required Documents:

    • Completed and signed application form.

    • Certified copy of your ID.

    • Certified copy of your Matric Certificate.

    • Updated CV.
