2. Minimum Requirements
To qualify for this clinical post, you must meet the following statutory requirements:
Qualification: A qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Nursing Assistant (Enrolled Nursing Assistant).
Registration: Current and valid registration with the SANC as a Nursing Assistant.
Experience: No experience is required for Grade 1, but candidates must have completed their practical training.
Attributes: Good communication skills, ability to work under pressure, and a high level of empathy and patient confidentiality.
3. Key Responsibilities
Nursing Assistants provide basic nursing care under the supervision of a Professional Nurse:
Patient Hygiene: Assisting patients with bathing, dressing, and oral hygiene.
Nutrition: Helping patients with feeding and ensuring they have access to water and prescribed diets.
Vital Signs: Measuring and recording basic observations such as Blood Pressure, Pulse, Temperature, and Respiration.
Mobility: Assisting with the turning of bedridden patients to prevent pressure sores (bedsores) and helping patients move to chairs or stretchers.
Clinical Environment: Keeping the patient's immediate environment clean and ensuring that medical waste is disposed of correctly.
