JOB DESCRIPTION
The successful candidate will support the business plan’s strategic objectives through the effective
management and maintenance of the hospital’s electrical and technical infrastructure.
The Technical Artisan – Electrician will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection,
testing, troubleshooting and repair of electrical systems and equipment throughout the hospital.
The role will also provide technical support across the hospital’s engineering services, ensuring that
all electrical infrastructure is maintained to a safe, reliable and compliant standard.
The successful candidate will be required to respond to technical breakdowns(including after hours,
when on standby), conduct preventative maintenance, manage maintenance projects and ensure
compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, relevant electrical legislation, regulations,
standards and hospital requirements.
KEY FUNCTIONS
Key functions of a technical artisan in a healthcare setting include:
• Electrical Installation: Install, maintain and repair electrical systems, equipment, wiring,
distribution boards, lighting and related infrastructure.
• Preventative Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections, testing and preventative
maintenance to ensure electrical systems remain safe, reliable and operational.
• Fault-Finding and Repairs: Diagnose electrical faults and perform corrective repairs in a
timely and effective manner.
• Electrical Infrastructure: Maintain and monitor LV, MV and other electrical infrastructure,
including generators, UPS systems, changeover systems, emergency power supplies and
associated equipment.
• Testing and Compliance: Conduct electrical testing and inspections and ensure that
systems comply with applicable legislation, regulations and safety standards.
• Emergency Response: Attend to electrical breakdowns and technical emergencies
promptly, particularly where critical hospital services may be affected.
• Control Systems: Assist with the maintenance and troubleshooting of control systems,
BMS and associated technical systems. • Technical Support: Provide technical assistance across the hospital’s engineering
services, including HVAC, DC power, BMS, AV systems and other related infrastructure.
• Project Support: Assist with and oversee electrical maintenance and installation
projects, ensuring that work is completed according to specifications, timelines and
safety requirements.
• Contractor Management: Monitor and coordinate external contractors where required,
ensuring that work is completed safely and in accordance with Cintocare standards.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, repairs, testing
and technical incidents.
• Safety: Ensure that all electrical work is conducted in accordance with OHS requirements,
safe working practices and applicable electrical regulations.
• Hospital Environment: Ensure that technical maintenance activities are conducted with
minimal disruption to patients, staff and hospital operations.
QUALIFICATION
• Trade Test Certificate – Electrician
• Wireman’s Licence will be advantageous.
• Electrical Installation Rules / relevant electrical compliance certification will be
advantageous.
• Additional qualifications in electrical, technical or engineering services will be advantageous.
EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a qualified electrician, preferably within an acute
private hospital or healthcare environment.
• Proven experience in electrical maintenance, fault-finding, installations and preventative
maintenance.
• Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and relevant regulations.
• Sound knowledge of electrical systems and hospital engineering services.
• Experience working with LV, MV, HT, DC power, generators, UPS systems, control systems
and BMS.
• Experience in a critical environment where electrical reliability and continuity of services are
essential.
• Experience in managing or coordinating technical projects and external contractors will be
advantageous.
• A clear criminal record
• The successful candidate must reside within a 30 km radius of Cintocare, Menlyn Maine, to
ensure reasonable accessibility and availability for the role during standby periods.
