5. Important Advice for 2026
The "Re-Advert" Factor: This post was re-advertised because the initial window (which closed in January) may not have yielded enough qualified candidates. This means they are looking for very specific qualifications (NQF 6). If you only have a Grade 12 or a lower-level certificate, your application will likely be unsuccessful.
ISO Processes: Eskom emphasizes ISO compliance. If you have any knowledge of ISO 22000 (Food Safety Management), mention this in your CV or during an interview.
Disability Equity: Eskom’s recruitment policy explicitly encourages people with disabilities to apply.
Feedback Window: If you do not hear back within 28 days after the closing date, consider your application unsuccessful.
6. Why Join Eskom?
Long-Term Experience: At 24 months, this programme offers double the exposure of typical hospitality internships, giving you a serious competitive edge.
Institutional Catering: Learning how to manage a kitchen for a large corporate entity like Eskom prepares you for senior roles in hotels, hospitals, and major event companies.
Professional Discipline: Training under an Executive Chef at a national utility company instills a high level of work ethic and time management.
Tip: Before the interview, brush up on your knowledge of menu planning and inventory management systems. Since you'll be assisting the Executive Chef with administrative tasks, showing that you understand the "business side" of a kitchen is a major plus!
