3. Key Responsibilities

Management Support Services (MSS) handles the "behind-the-scenes" work that keeps the Labour Centres running:

  • Registry & Filing: Managing incoming and outgoing mail, maintaining an efficient filing system, and archiving records according to departmental standards.

  • HR Administration: Assisting with staff leave applications, processing overtime claims, and maintaining personnel records.

  • Finance & Procurement: Capturing requisitions for office supplies and ensuring invoices are tracked for payment.

  • Logistics: Coordinating transport and fleet management for the centre, including fuel claims and vehicle maintenance schedules.

  • Asset Management: Assisting with the physical verification of office equipment and updating the asset register.

The department is very strict about the Z83 application format.

  1. Z83 Form: You must use the New Z83 Form (2021 edition). It must be fully completed and signed.

  2. Reference Number: Ensure the reference HR/4/4/5/12 is clearly quoted.

  3. Submission Channels:

    • Email: Submit your application as a single PDF document to Jobs-KZN@labour.gov.za.

    • Hand Delivery: To the nearest Provincial Office in KZN if you are currently in the region.

  4. Required Documents: Only a Comprehensive CV and the Z83 are required initially. No certified copies of qualifications should be attached at this stage.

5. Important Advice for 2026

  • The "MSS" Focus: Management Support Services is about compliance. In your application, emphasize your ability to follow strict rules and handle sensitive paperwork (like staff leave or fuel records) with high accuracy.

  • Organizational Logic: Given your Engineering background, you are naturally gifted with organization and technical systems. Mention that your experience with software like MATLAB and QuickField has made you highly "digitally fluent," which will allow you to master the department’s administrative databases quickly.

  • KZN Location: These specific posts are for KwaZulu-Natal. If you are applying from Limpopo, be prepared to confirm that you can relocate for the interview and the job at your own expense.

  • Deadline: 22 May 2026 is the cutoff. Email submissions are generally better as they provide you with an immediate "sent" receipt for your records.

6. Why Join the Department of Employment and Labour?

  • Pension & Benefits: As a permanent Level 5 employee, you receive a 13th cheque (bonus), medical aid subsidy, and housing allowance.

  • Professionalism: You gain a deep understanding of how the South African government functions "from the inside."

  • Career Ladder: This is an entry-level professional post. With your Engineering degree, you could eventually move into Facilities Management or Technical Safety Inspection (OHS) roles within the same department.

Tip: Your history of extracting and generating posts for social media shows you have excellent data management skills. Frame this as your ability to "efficiently process and distribute large volumes of organizational information"—this is exactly what an MSS Clerk does!
