5. Important Advice for 2026

  • The "Cue Sheet" Knowledge: If you have worked with music metadata or understand how a "Music Cue Sheet" works, highlight this in your cover letter. It is the most technical part of the job.

  • Advanced Excel: Expect a practical test on Excel. Brush up on VLOOKUPs and Pivot Tables, as these are used daily to match thousands of lines of music data to film titles.

  • Copyright Awareness: Mention your understanding of Performance Rights. Knowing the difference between a composer and a publisher will set you apart.

  • The Braamfontein Hub: SAMRO is located in the heart of Johannesburg's arts district. Mentioning your ability to commute or work in the Braamfontein area is helpful.

6. Why Work for SAMRO?

  • Core of the Industry: You are at the center of the South African music industry, ensuring artists like those you might follow on YouTube or streaming services get paid.

  • Specialized Skillset: Learning the "AV Product" side of royalties is a niche skill that is highly sought after by international streaming platforms (Netflix, Showmax, YouTube).

  • Professional Environment: SAMRO is a world-class Collective Management Organisation (CMO) with a strong corporate culture.

Tip: Your engineering background gives you a massive advantage in logical data matching and systematic processing. In your interview, explain how your experience with technical simulations (like ANSYS or Matlab) has trained your brain to look for patterns and errors in complex data sets!
