Position Purpose
The Mechanical Engineering Foreman oversees mechanical installations, maintenance, and operations in the mine. The role combines technical supervision, operational planning, safety management, and team leadership to ensure reliable plant performance.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise mechanical maintenance of pumps, conveyors, crushers, and plant machinery
Plan and coordinate daily/weekly/monthly work priorities
Ensure safety compliance with Mine Health & Safety Act regulations
Conduct inspections, hazard identification, and risk reporting
Lead and mentor artisans and assistants
Prepare reports, maintain records, and ensure audit compliance
Support shutdowns and breakdown management
Candidate Requirements
Qualification:
Grade 12 with Maths & Science
Trade Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Fitter/Turner/Boilermaker)
Foreman Certificate or Mechanical Diploma advantageous
Experience:
Minimum 5 years post‑trade experience
Supervisory experience preferred
Skills:
Mechanical safety, risk management, incident reporting
Knowledge of plant machinery and mechanical systems
Root cause analysis and shutdown execution
Other: Medical certificate of fitness required
