The entry criteria are strict due to the high volume of applicants:

  • Education: A completed (or in-progress for 2025 completion) Honours or Master’s Degree in a relevant field.

  • Citizenship: You must be a South African Citizen.

  • Age: Generally between 18 and 30 years old.

  • Work Experience: You must have less than 12–24 months of full-time professional experience.

  • Academic Performance: A strong academic transcript is required (Standard Bank often looks for a 65% aggregate or higher).

4. The Application & Selection Process

Standard Bank uses a multi-stage digital selection process:

  1. Online Application: Register and upload your CV and full academic transcripts at the Standard Bank Careers Portal.

  2. Odyssey Assessment: If you pass the initial screening, you will be invited to complete an online cognitive and situational assessment.

  3. Video/Virtual Interview: Successful candidates will be invited to record a video interview or attend a live virtual session.

  4. Psychometric Testing: Finalists undergo deeper behavioral and aptitude testing.

  5. Formal Interview: A final panel interview with senior executives from your chosen business unit.

5. Important Advice for 2026

  • Transcripts are Key: Unlike general jobs, your full academic record (from first year to final year) is mandatory. The system will not allow you to proceed without it.

  • Apply Early: While the deadline is 31 May, Standard Bank often reviews applications on a "rolling basis." If a stream reaches its capacity, it may close earlier than the official date.

  • The "One Standard" Culture: Research the bank's "See the potential, make it possible" philosophy. In your interview, explain how your skills can help solve African challenges specifically.

  • STEM Focus: Standard Bank is pivoting toward being a "platform-led" organization. Even if you are in Finance, showing digital literacy (e.g., Python, SQL, or FinTech knowledge) is a massive advantage.

6. Why Join Standard Bank?

  • International Exposure: As a bank with a footprint in 20 African countries, you may collaborate with teams in Nigeria, Kenya, or Uganda.

  • Mentorship: You are paired with a "Buddy" (a previous grad) and a "Coach" (a senior leader).

  • Corporate Benefits: Graduates often gain access to wellness programmes, discounted financial products, and performance-based recognition like "Mark of Excellence."

Tip: Standard Bank values Problem Solvers. In your application, don't just list your grades; describe a specific project or "challenge" where you used your technical skills to find a solution.
