 Ampath has opened applications for its 2027 Student Medical Technician Programme, a 24‑month self‑funded training running from January 2027 to December 2028 at laboratories in Gauteng, Eastern Cape, and KwaZulu‑Natal. The programme costs R65,000 and applications close on 31 July 2026.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 pass with 50% or higher in Mathematics, Life Sciences, and English

  • Pure Mathematics required (Mathematical Literacy not accepted)

  • Ability to attend full‑time (40 hours/week, Monday–Friday) for 24 months

  • Ability to cover programme cost (payment arrangements available)

Programme Structure

  • Classroom instruction plus supervised laboratory rotations

  • Training in Clinical Pathology, Chemical Pathology, Microbiology, or Histopathology

  • Practical experience in specimen handling, equipment use, quality control, and lab safety

  • Eligibility for HPCSA board examination after 18 months, leading to professional registration
