Position Purpose
The Master Installation Electrician is registered under Regulation 9 and approved by the Chief Inspector to verify and certify electrical installations. The role ensures safe custody, transfer, and transport of petroleum products, working closely with Operations, Instrumentation, and Mechanical departments.
Key Responsibilities
Manage Certificates of Compliance (COCs) and conduct inspections under the OSH Act.
Oversee electrical installations and ensure correct application of equipment.
Perform preventative maintenance on motors, actuators, and trip protection systems.
Diagnose and repair defects on live equipment.
Remove, replace, refurbish, and certify electrical equipment.
Handle high voltage equipment up to 132KV, including switching and earthing.
Conduct safety inspections, supervise personnel, and ensure compliance with flameproof standards.
Manage administration: reports, permits, SAP modules, audits, and acting as supervisor when required.
Complete Electrical Trade Test
Obtain a Trade Test Electrical qualification with at least 3 years of technical training and on-the-job experience.Gain Pipeline Electrical Experience
Acquire practical exposure to Transnet Pipelines electrical equipment and operations during the three-year training period.Register as Master Installation Electrician
Apply at the Department of Labour to be registered as a Master Installation Electrician under Regulation 9.Complete Two Years On-the-Job Training
Undertake supervised training and exposure at depots to qualify for final accreditation.Obtain Final Accreditation
Pass assessments and receive approval from the Chief Inspector for certification and verification duties.Maintain Certification Through Recertification
Attend refresher courses every two years and undergo recertification to remain compliant.Qualifications & Experience
Trade Test Electrical (3 years) + 3 years technical/electrical experience.
Registration with Department of Labour as Master Installation Electrician.
Courses: SAP Plant Maintenance, HV safety (A-Brown), NOSA Safety, Fire Fighting, Oil Spill, First Aid Level 2, Rotork actuator, Electrical motor, Transformer (HT), Confined spaces, Cathodic Protection.
Computer literacy (SAP, Word, Excel).
Code 8 driver’s licence, Wireman’s licence, Explosion Protection certification.
