Minimum Requirements

A completed Grade 12 (Matric) certificate with a pass in Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy.
South African citizen aged 18 years or older.
Physical fitness and mental stamina required to operate under high-stress conditions.
No claustrophobia (fear of confined spaces) or acrophobia (fear of heights).
A valid South African Code B (Code 08) manual driver's license is highly advantageous.
Clear criminal record with absolute willingness to undergo comprehensive medical and physical evaluations.
Key Responsibilities & Training Exposure
Learners undergo intensive physical training and theoretical instruction to obtain international emergency service certifications:
Participating in rigorous physical conditioning and core firefighting drill structures.
Learning the mechanics of fire behavior, structural containment protocols, and hazardous materials management.
Operating specialized high-pressure hoses, emergency extraction tools, and breathing apparatus under strict supervision.
Assisting operational crews with emergency response callouts, structural search-and-rescue operations, and public safety hazard reduction.
Maintaining emergency vehicles, inventory logs, and verifying that personal protective equipment (PPE) meets strict safety compliance.
Physical Suitability Assessment Metrics
Before formal shortlisting, all applicants must pass strict, timed physical performance tests, which typically include:
A 2.4 km running trial under strict time thresholds.
A timed push-up, sit-up, and pull-up assessment block.
A heavy equipment carry and ladder climbing stability test to check for fear of heights.
